Syn.: Judge not of men and things at first sight.
A fair face may hide a foul heart (soul).
All is not gold that glitters.

2. The rotten apple injures its neighbours.
The rotten apple spoils its companions.

Syn.: Evil communications corrupt good manners.

Ср.: Гнилое яблоко портит соседние.
Паршивая овца все стадо портит.
С кем поведешься, от того и наберешься.

3. A bully is always a coward.
Bullies are awars cowards.

Syn.: Cowards are cruel.
Cowardice is the mother of cruelty.

Ср.: Задира всегда трус.
Шкодлив, как кошка, а труслив, как заяц.

4. Scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

Syn.: One good turn deserves another.
One hand washes the other.

Ср.: Почеши мне спину, и я почешу тебе.
Окажи мне услугу, и я окажу тебе.
Ты - мне, я - тебе.
Услуга за услугу.

Долг платежом красен.

Syn.: Let the dead bury their dead.

Ср.: Пусть прошлое останется в прошлом.
Не следует помнить прошлые обиды.
Что было, то прошло (и быльем поросло).
Кто старое помянет, тому глаз вон.
Что было, то было.

6. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.
Early to bed.

Syn.: The early bird catches the worm.
An early riser is sure to be in luck.
He who sleeps catches no fish.

Ср.: Кто рано ложится и рано встаёт, здоровье, богатство и ум наживет.
Кто раньше встаёт, тот вдвое живет.
Долго спать - с долгом встать.

7. It never rains but it pours.
It seldom rains but it pours.

Syn.: Misfortunes never come singly.
An evil chance seldom comes alone.

Ср.: Пришла беда - отворяй ворота. Беда беду накликает. Беда не приходит одна: сама идёт и другую ведёт.

8. It is an ill wind that blows nobody good.
It is an ill wind that blows no one any good.

Syn.: Every cloud has a silver lining.
No great loss but some small profit.
It is a long lane that has no turning.

Ср.: Не бывать бы счастью, да несчастье помогло. Нет худа без добра. Не все ненастье, проглянет и красное солнышко.
